Lucifer Lighting’s NYC Pop-Up Embodies Its Design Philosophy

Lucifer Lighting has opened a pop-up showroom in SoHo. The space, called An Architectural Lighting Experience, features the San Antonio–based company’s Cylinder and Squilinder fixtures as well as the Fraxion downlight, their latest product.

Rather than emphasizing fixtures, the showcase underlines lighting’s effects on mood. “Our job is to allow designers and architects to make spaces come to life,” says executive vice president Alexandra Mathews. “Lighting is in the service of architecture—we’ve done our job well if people don’t comment on the lighting or fixtures, but say the space is nice.”

Visible from outside, a quote from Le Corbusier’s Toward an Architecture graces the backdrop of an original art installation reminiscent of a deconstructed diagrammatic engine. The 3,000-square-foot space, designed by Gensler, presents lighting at ceiling heights of 9, 10, 11, and 12 feet in harmony with various furniture, artwork, and flora.

The pop-up, located at 362 West Broadway, runs through September. Visits are by appointment only.
